By implementing its mission related to combating digital exclusion, Widzialni Foundation has concluded cooperation with CANAL+ Cyfrowy, within the scope of which, it provides sign language translations for TV shows for children and documentary movies.

Purpose of the project is to satisfy the assumptions of the Act on Broadcasting that states in art. 18a:

  1. Broadcasters of TV programs are obliged to provide accessibility of the programs to disabled persons with sight and hearing impairment, introducing proper facilities: audio-description, subtitles for hearing impaired persons and translations to sign language, so that at least 10% of quarter time of broadcasting, excluding advertisements and teleshopping, would have such facilities.
  2.  The National Council, by way of a decision, may specify less share of shows with facilities for disabled persons having sight and hearing impairment than the share specified in item 1, considering various program offer in different air time, technical options, needs of the receivers, method of distributing and specialization of the program, without imposing unjustified duties on broadcasters.

MiniMini+, TeleTOON+

In June 2012, the first cartoons were aired on channel MiniMini+ i teleTOON+, which are very popular among young audience ”Raa Raa – mały, hałaśliwy lew” and ”Gormiti III - Nowa ewolucja”. Cartoon about naughty lion is addressed to kindergarden kids, and "Gormiti" is a cult fantasy TV show among school youth.

- Our project is not only a pioneering in Poland but in Europe also. As the first broadcaster for kids we actively joint the combat with digital exclusion of persons with hearing dysfunction. Beacuse of our initiative, deaf children can watch very attractive programs, which until now were only accessible to children without hearing impairments - says Marta Szwakopf, Director of MiniMini+ and teleTOON+. She adds: In order to provide the highest level of translations, we cooperate in this project with specialists certified in sign language, and Widzialni Foundation became our partner.

The first cartoons with sign language translation were presented on Child Day in the Institute for the Deaf in Warsaw. The young audience was very enthusiastic. After the show, there was a discussion concerning the presented animations - almost fifty children assessed the quality of translation.

- Translation of cartoons to sign language is a challenge. Kids are strict critics, does not compromise and always say what's on their mind. That is why positive opinions, expressed by young people during the show in the Institute of the Deaf, are even more valuable - says Artur Marcinkowski, chairman of the board of Widzialni Foundation.

Widzialni Foundation, within the scope of cooperation with Canal + Cyfrowy translates documentary movies for Planete +

PLANETE+ as the first TV in Poland broadcasts documentary movies with audio-description. Innovative project was started on Monday, 17 December 2012.

Because of the audio-description, blind and visually impaired persons have the access to the best documentary movies in the world, presented on the station. Every month, PLANETE+ introduces one production in version with audio-description. The service is free of charge as an additional sound track, which can be activated with the remote.
