The Foundation has performed almost 1000 accessibility audits based on the study methodology developed by the Foundation experts, based on expert's research and tests with disabled users. They consist of: accessibility audit in the form of assessed lists, ordered audits, research for the purposes of IT publications in the Administration (every month within 2009 - 2013), research "Opening Report". Based on the audits, the Foundation has developed recommendation which allows adopting the sites of ministries, banks, on-line banking, universities, insurance companies, courts, Internet shops, telecommunication operators, museums, theatres and many other entities to the accessibility standards. The Foundation has set the only one in Poland identification mark Website Without Barriers, awarded to sites meeting the international accessibility standards.

The accessibility audit performed by the Widzialni Foundation is a research of website accessibility for disabled persons and other persons endanger with digital exclusion and it is in conformity with the Decision of the Council of Ministers of 12 April 2012 on the National Frameworks of Interoperability, minimum requirements for public registers and exchange of information in electronic form as well as minimum requirements for IT systems and with the recommendations of the European Union for the Member States.

The audit consists of two stages:

  • expert's study performed by experts in the field of programming and accessibility,
  • research with participation of disabled persons (blind, visually impaired and deaf).

Expert's study

This consists on checking the accessibility of websites by experts in those fields, together with a series of elements affecting the site accessibility, according to a check list WCAG 2.0 and based on the study methodology developed by Widzialni Foundation together with the University of Silesia.

Inspection by persons with disabilities

The second part is users’ experience, i.e. control by blind, visually impaired and deaf persons. This part is divided to two parts. In the first part, the auditors check critical elements of the site. Deaf persons check the intelligibility and clarity of the content and its impact on the site comprehension, blind persons, using the assisting software check the option to navigate and obtain information on the site. The second part consists of a series of tasks selected for a given site.

The audit ends with a report containing the expert and users' tests results, summary and methods of solving the errors.

The site that will introduce recommendations of the Foundation resulting from the audit will be able to bear the symbol Website without Barriers.

Audit of mobile application of mobile version of a web site is performed using mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) operating based on the operating systems most popular among disabled persons: Android and iOS

The test is performed by blind and visually impaired persons.

The audit is performed to check:

  • Conformity with the WCAG 2.0 standard
  • Cooperation with technologies assisting in the most popular mobile systems
  • Usefulness and functionality both from the level of touch screens and other external devices (external keyboard, Braille terminal, etc.)
  • Correct presentation of content on devices of different size of matrix and dynamically changing screen direction
  • Usefulness of settings

The most important part of the audit is the report containing:

  • indication of lack of compatibility with the WCAG standard
  • description of problems that the disabled persons have found
  • methods for solving the problems.

Disabled persons check the mobile version of the side using mobile devices. After the tests, an audit report is prepared.
